This pioneering project, the result of a collaboration between EPFL, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, and industrial partners, paves the way for concrete solutions to harness renewable energy and strengthen Switzerland\u2019s energy security. <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\"> <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ql-heading\" data-block-id=\"block-95d0b8b8-511d-4f07-98eb-e6ff2317c217\">A demonstration project supporting the energy transition<\/h2>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-f75e415a-392a-4b6c-8739-577e3d56ed93\">The Power-to-Gas demonstrator aims to test innovative technologies designed to address the challenges of the energy transition, including CO\u2082 capture and the seasonal storage of electricity in the form of gas. This facility converts excess electricity generated in the summer into hydrogen or methane, which can be stored long-term or injected into the gas grid. This system provides a concrete solution to seasonal fluctuations in energy production and consumption, thereby stabilizing the grid and securing the supply, particularly during the winter.  <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\"> <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"ql-heading\" data-block-id=\"block-09c2f1af-32d9-45c0-b0c2-c12992c9a00f\">Storing electricity in the form of gas<\/h3>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-575eae09-208f-4a3f-bf3d-5033c1fbedab\">Power-to-Gas technology converts surplus renewable electricity into hydrogen or methane through electrolysis and methanation, utilizing CO\u2082 capture. This process, developed by teams at EPFL and HES-SO Valais, is a key component of a circular and carbon-neutral energy economy. <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\"> <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"ql-heading\" data-block-id=\"block-e49e4784-5835-4892-9316-f0d650f9f5b0\">CO\u2082 Capture and Utilization<\/h3>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-24291c27-d904-4ac3-b164-2fd2819ed0a7\">La neutralit\u00e9 carbone passe par la capture du CO\u2082 \u00e0 la source. Le d\u00e9monstrateur exploite des membranes en graph\u00e8ne et des structures m\u00e9tallo-organiques (MOFs) pour filtrer et adsorber efficacement le CO\u2082, qui est ensuite valoris\u00e9 dans le processus de m\u00e9thanation ou stock\u00e9 sous forme liquide. Ces innovations issues des laboratoires du campus de Sion illustrent la capacit\u00e9 de la recherche suisse \u00e0 proposer des solutions concr\u00e8tes pour la d\u00e9carbonation.  <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\"> <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"ql-heading\" data-block-id=\"block-306ac354-2c5c-4678-9693-e7a855b07cd6\">A catalyst for the local economy and training<\/h3>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-e9b4d2c8-d9d5-48f7-9fb5-416ebbbce6d1\">Supported by the Valais Energy Demonstrators Fund (5 million francs), the project promotes the development of full-scale facilities and provides hands-on training for the engineers of tomorrow. It is fully aligned with the Swiss Confederation\u2019s Energy Strategy 2050 and demonstrates the strength of the partnership between academic institutions and local industry. <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\"> <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ql-heading\" data-block-id=\"block-dda361e6-6914-47df-9581-7d370b7b7135\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-415605f4-6177-4eee-82fb-777ba2493597\">The Power-to-Gas demonstrator positions Valais as a hub of innovation in energy transition and the circular economy.
