The process is based on the transformation of industrial CO2 into ethanol by bacterial fermentation, then into sustainable PET. These bottles are used for smoothies, juices and window cleaners, reducing oil dependency and the carbon footprint of packaging.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://wasteolas.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/migros-ethanol-lanzatech-1024×574.png” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text=”migros-ethanol-lanzatech” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″ align=”center” width=”50%”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding=”||0px|||”]

A global approach to CO 2 recovery

Mibelle Group, a subsidiary of Migros, is also known for its efforts in recycling and CO2 recovery. In addition to PET, the company implements recovery processes including material recycling, methanization, incineration with energy recovery and animal feed. In 2024, the retail sector of the Migros cooperatives recycled 77,771 tons of materials, or 58.7% of total waste volume.

Ambitious objectives for the circular economy

By 2025, Migros aims to reduce its own-brand packaging materials by 5%, with 60% of packaging made from renewable raw materials and 50% from recycled materials. The group’s overall recycling rate reached 83.5% in 2024, demonstrating the effectiveness of its circular strategy.

Signal for WasteOlas

The commitment of major groups such as Migros to CO2 promotion confirms that this dynamic is gaining momentum and establishing itself as a fundamental trend in the industry. WasteOlas is fully part of this movement, driven by a shared vision of the circular economy and decarbonization. The initiatives of Migros and Mibelle Group reinforce the legitimacy of our approach and highlight the importance of increasing the number of committed stakeholders to accelerate the transition.

Conclusion

The proliferation of CO2 recovery projects by market leaders demonstrates that the transition to a low-carbon circular economy is now a reality in motion. WasteOlas, in step with these changes, is positioned as a key player in this transformation, ready to actively contribute to the construction of a more sustainable and resilient industrial model.

Sources

Migros: PET bottles made from CO2

Migros: CO2 recycling with Mibelle

Key figures Migros circular economy

Migros packaging objectives

Copyright – Migros

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Introduction Migros and its subsidiary Mibelle Group are pioneers in the development of CO2 in Switzerland, thanks to two innovative projects that transform industrial emissions into resources for the circular economy.
