Driven by ADEME and the Ministry of Industry, the sector is undergoing accelerated structuring, but its real potential still needs to be confirmed in the face of many technical, economic and societal challenges. <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\">\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-fb3c5a94-d852-4b0c-beaa-53be82b9af26\"><strong>A sector taking shape, with clear national ambitions<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-5676fee1-ed4d-4362-9357-7cc6c30e690e\">France has committed to capturing between 4 and 8 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030, as part of the National Low-Carbon Strategy. This momentum is supported by the emergence of pilot projects, the publication of expert opinions, and the mobilization of public and private stakeholders. Three main pillars have been identified: reducing hard-to-abate industrial emissions, producing e-fuels for transport, and offsetting residual emissions via geological storage or the valorization of biogenic CO2.  <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\">\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-d09fd9df-bcff-41ae-966d-c624ad395fa6\"><strong>Promising technologies, but costly and complex to deploy<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-1b36ba15-8768-469c-a1db-1b0a898f61f8\">CCS remains a last-resort lever, to be used after energy optimization and electrification. Capture costs currently exceed \u20ac200\/t CO2, well above the price of European allowances (\u20ac70\/t in early 2026), making the use of these technologies dependent on public support. Implementation also requires heavy infrastructure (pipelines, terminals, underground storage) and coordination among many stakeholders with diverse professions.  <\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 1em;\">\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-3621d341-09bb-4054-9c86-d1cdf614439c\"><strong>Geographic constraints, public acceptance and international partnerships<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"ql-block\" data-block-id=\"block-5266d7bb-6a36-4063-9a31-33ab963f1c75\">Storage potential depends heavily on the location of industrial sites and the available geological capacity, often far from emission areas. The first projects are expected to rely on cross-border storage, in partnership with more advanced European countries.
