An idea, a passion, a vision

My name is Michael Peytrignet, an engineer passionate about innovation and the environmental transition.

WasteOlas is, above all, a project close to my heart, one I conceived back in 2017 upon completing my studies at the Fribourg School of Engineering and Architecture (HEIA-FR).

Faced with the issue of CO₂, one question has been on my mind :

How can we turn this unlimited resource into an opportunity ?

From Idea to Business

In 2022, WasteOlas won the IDDEA Award, a major accolade that marked a turning point: we formalized the team and founded WasteOlas Sàrl, driven by our ambition to offer innovative and accessible solutions for CO₂ utilization.

Innovating with committed partners

From 2023 to 2026, WasteOlas is conducting a pilot project with Docteur Gab’s Brewery and Alcane Conseil as part of a sustainable collaborative initiative supported by a grant from the SPEI (Canton of Vaud).

We are developing a custom system for capturing and utilizing CO₂ at the brewery. At the time, no existing system was suited to the brewery’s size, so we had to innovate while staying within the defined budget.

The project has been a success: it has validated our approach and paved the way for the development of an open-innovation solution that is both technically and financially accessible.

Understanding the Brewing Industry

To support the development of the solution, WasteOlas conducted a market study on Swiss breweries in collaboration with the Swiss Brewers Association (ASB).

This collaboration has led to a better understanding of the industry’s needs, helped identify opportunities, and strengthened the network among key players in the brewing sector.

Star’Terre: Accelerating with Confidence

Starting in March 2024, WasteOlas has been participating in the Star’Terre support program. This tailored support has been essential for smoothly moving forward with the pilot project with the brewery, while developing and strengthening the business model.

Thanks to Star’Terre, I was able to structure WasteOlas’s growth, refine our strategy, and amplify the project’s impact.

Expertise in industrial decarbonization

In 2025, I earned the CAS in Sustainable Energy: Industry Decarbonization, a program organized by EPFL (IPESE) and HES-SO Valais-Wallis.

This program has given me a systemic and cross-sectoral understanding of energy efficiency and the decarbonization of industrial processes.

Through this CAS program, I have strengthened my ability to identify and analyze heat and mass flows in industrial processes, design heat recovery solutions, integrate innovative technologies, and propose comprehensive decarbonization strategies to establish industrial symbiosis.

Today, I am putting this expertise to work for businesses to help them accelerate their transition to carbon neutrality, with practical, effective solutions tailored to their specific needs.

WasteOlas is developing an innovative platform, initially designed for breweries but built to adapt to any small and medium-sized business or industry looking to monitor and optimize their energy and environmental performance.

Our goal: to make your data clear, accessible, and shareable, so that all your partners can speak the same language whether it’s for your carbon footprint assessments, energy audits, or environmental studies.

Your data belongs to you and remains under your control, ready to be easily shared with your stakeholders.

Free tools and feasibility study

As soon as you create your user account, you’ll have access to free tools to conduct an initial feasibility study: Can your brewery incorporate a CO₂ recycling system within its budgetary and operational constraints?

An add-on module is currently being developed to help you conduct a simplified carbon assessment.
